6 Tips for a Job Search in a New City

6 Tips for a Job Search in a New City

Submitted by admin on Monday, 11 July 2022 - 20:42 Posted in Moving Tips & Tricks

Looking for a job in a new city can be exciting! So how can you make your job search easier and faster? You can do many things to make looking for a job in a new city fruitful. From working with recruiters to crafting the proper cover letter, here’s what you can do.

1. Contact a Recruiter

Finding a new job is hard when you don’t know which businesses are looking for workers or where you’d be the best fit. Finding a recruiter in your new city can help with this.

A good recruiter will know many businesses in the area that are hiring and will have contacts at those businesses. In addition, your recruiter should get a sense of who you are, allowing them to pick the best positions for your specific set of talents and goals.

You can work with multiple recruiters in the area where you’re relocating. Polish your resume and send it to several talent agencies to find the best position for your needs.

2. Discuss Your Relocation In the Cover Letter

Your current address in your resume or cover letter could confuse hiring managers. Fortunately, your cover letter is an excellent opportunity to discuss your upcoming relocation and your availability to start a new job.

Will you be visiting your new city any time soon? Explain this in your cover letter, so businesses that would like to meet you in person can do so when you’re available.

3. Make Contacts In Your New City

Do you know anyone in the new city where you’re considering relocating? If so, reach out to your friends and acquaintances to find out if they know about any positions in the area that would be a good fit for you.

If you don’t know anyone in the city where you’re moving, now is the time to make contacts. First, inquire with people you know to find out if they know of anyone in the city where you’re planning to relocate. Then, if you do make contacts in your new city, request informational interviews to learn more about job opportunities in the area.

4. Be Available for Interviews

Make yourself available to interview in person for job opportunities in your new city. While it may not be convenient to travel to your new city, making yourself available for interviews may be the only way that you can find a new job.

5. Apply for As Many Jobs as Possible

To increase your chances of finding a new job, apply for as many positions as possible. Devote time to your job search every day, and make a goal of applying for at least one available job daily if possible.

6. Moving? Work With Professionals So You Can Focus On the Job Search

Moving is a lot of work. To take some worry and work off your plate, hire professional movers who will take responsibility for transporting your things from your old city to your new city. Doing this gives you more time to focus on your job search.
